Annually, around 4,500 women die in the Philippines from childbirth or labor complications, approximately 11 each day! Children born there are 14x’s more likely to die within the first month of life, than in the USA. Causes range from disease or malnutrition that would be preventable with basic medical care. Poverty is rampant; current statistics show approximately 75,000 Filipino children are involved in prostitution and human trafficking, due to their families’ poor circumstances. When parents die, children are vulnerable.
Mercy in Action is a non-profit organization that focuses on the crisis in Maternal/Newborn/Child health care worldwide. They have been establishing and funding free birth centers for poor families in the Philippines since 1992. To date, more than 12,000 babies have been delivered free of charge for the poorest of the poor in these Birth Centers, and literally tens of thousands of lives have been helped and healed in MIA’s medical outreaches.
Join us August 20th for a benefit to raise funds for Mercy in Action. Right now, families and volunteers are in the Philippines, building a medical clinic – brick by brick, stone by stone! This clinic will provide medical service to thousands of Philippine families, all for free! This clinic will save thousands of lives.
Proceeds will help purchase antibiotics, beds, sterile gloves, sutures, baby blankets, clean water, and a host of other supplies for the families that Mercy in Action serves every day.
